Travellers to Kyrgyzstan are not required to be immunized, but they should have the latest Tetanus and Typhoid vaccines. It is a good idea to consult your local GP for advice on the most effective immunisations and preventative therapies.
Food and beverages
Kyrgyzstan’s cuisine is based mainly on rice and meat. But, there are many other options for salads and vegetable choices. You can sample local cuisines while you travel, which often overlap with those of other cultures.
The selection of alcohol is restricted to vodka or beers. Anyone who wants to sample something else – such as Scotch or Gin is advised to purchase the alcohol duty-free and carry it with them. Mixers such as tonic water are very difficult to find in Central Asia.
Cultural Sensitivity

Central Asia has a laid low-key approach to Islam. This is the first thing you must know when you travel there particularly in cities and towns. You won’t believe how long skirts of women are in places such as Bishkek! It is a Muslim area so it is imperative to be mindful in certain places. T-shirts and shorts are acceptable for both genders, but when attending mosques, women should be sure to cover their shoulders, and wear pants or skirts that do not reach just below the knee, while the male should not wear shorts.

Language and Religion
Kyrgyzstan is among the two former Soviet Republics in Central Asia to retain Russian as their official language. In the early 90’s Kyrgyzstan was declared to be a dual-language country that added Kyrgyz as an official language. Also, there are Uzbeks from the ethnic group and Tajiks in certain parts of Kyrgyzstan due to the prior Soviet policies.
