It is often five years since Sami visited France to handle his studies in engineering. He could be courageous, ambitious, smart, and highly sensitive. Sami returns to Lebanon 3 times per year, in April, August, and December.
Nada, his mother, is 55 years of age and does not work. When Sami announced to her he will be going to Paris to study, she was proud but in addition anxious. Scared and worried, she started sleeping less at night, contemplating how her son would survive life in France. From the cold to girls to food, everything worried her.
Before Sami left, he showed his mother utilizing Skype and promised to occasionally to update her on his life, but he wasn’t sure this be enough.
Nada spent lots of her days looking forward to that Skype notification to determine and talk to her son. Each and every time Sami returned home, he realized that her face increasingly showed indications of anxiety, which worried him a great deal. He became anxious but was believing that his diploma from France provides him having a better life.
August 2017. Sami recently landed in Lebanon and goes home to see his parents. He discusses
his mother’s face and sees something more important: she actually is smiling and appearance relaxed.
What has happened since 2012
Combined with the technological advancements, WhatsApp was unveiled in the world. This was revolutionary in many ways. Contrary to popular belief, it changed Nada’s life. She actually is a simple learner and received a smartphone as a gift from her son. Sami is now able to share many specifics of his life together with her. Instantaneously, through voice messages, she could hear his voice at any time during the day. She could also video-call him even if he could be in the pub, in a different country. Sami sometimes shares photos of his lunch, the elements, articles of clothing he wanted to buy, and also images of his new girlfriend. Whenever she gets anxious, she sends Sami a message, and many of times, she receives an
instantaneous response.
Technology has been criticized a lot lately like a reasons why families are becoming distant, however in some cases, especially for people living abroad, it has changed their lives.
